ABOUT SIMON KENNY

Immigration Solicitor and Trainer

I’m an immigration lawyer who specialises in applications for businesses and complicated individual cases.  My work in this area started when I became a solicitor in 2000 and precedes this, since I was formerly an immigration officer.  As well as working as a consultant solicitor at Spencer West, I conduct very regular training courses about handling immigration issues within HR teams.  â€‹

For companies, I work on permission to work applications, defend illegal working penalties and handle issues arising from sponsor license applications.  I am involved in managing global immigration programmes, particularly for business travelers working across the EEA. My work often involves preparation for audit, right-to-work processes, defence to civil penalties and reviewing Certificates of Sponsorship for employees. Helpline services to both HR teams and individual employees of universities have been a major part of my recent career and I help academic staff make applications within the Global Talent programme.

Training in-house teams to handle immigration queries is an important part of my work. Recent work has included training for the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association, the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association, Business Forums International and other organizations.Although my office is in London, I am based in Liverpool, where I have lived most of my life.
